THINGS TO EXPECT

Aftercare

  • Swelling and tenderness will always occur with a new piercing. Depending on the area you were pierced swelling can last around 1-4 weeks.
  • A small amount of bruising and bleeding can occur.
  • While healing continues you can expect some drainage of a whitish fluid that can become crusty on your piercing, its important NOT to pick at these.

HOW TO LOOK AFTER YOUR NEW PIERCING

Cleaning

  • Your most thorough cleaning will happen in the shower. At the end of your shower once any hair products are rinsed away, allow warm water to run on your piercing for a couple of minutes. The warm water will help the piercing drain and will break up and loosen any stubborn crusties. Dry off piercing with kitchen roll or using a hair dryer on a cool setting is a speedy way to remove excess moisture.
  • Throughout the day you can use a sterile saline solution. We recommend neilmed piercing spray as its handy on the go & pre made to avoid any contamination. be sure to dry off piercing after use with paper towel/ kitchen roll. Avoid cotton buds as the fibres can catch onto jewellery.
  • Changing your pillow case frequently is also highly recommended.
  • Be sure to book your downsize if you’ve been recommended to have one, these should normally occur at 4-6 weeks to avoid any excess movement/ snagging on the piercing.

THINGS TO AVOID WHILE

Healing

  • Do not twist, play or remove your jewellery while healing. There is no need to rotate or remove your jewellery. This is highly detrimental to successful healing.
  • Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, or any kind of ointments on your piercings.
  • Avoid sleeping on new piercings as this can lead to additional inflammation and angle drift, neck pillows are great for side sleeping by popping your ear in the neck hole.
  • Avoid contact of facial, beauty & hair products ( be mindful or aerosols) with new piercings, and again give your piercing a great rinse after washing your hair.
  • Be mindful of using your phone on the side of new piercings as they are a bacteria utopia.
  • Avoid pools / hot tubs / sea water for at least 6 weeks.
